Building a new home and need a septic system?

You've come to the right place.  Beagle Hill Services is central Ohio's leading source for Septic System Design and Installation.

We can help you every step of the way, even before you purchase your property. We've put together a helpful list of the steps you should take to get the ball rolling.

New Construction

First - If you are purchasing a property, be aware that not all properties will sustain a septic system or the property could dictate a high cost system. If you are in doubt, contact us or a certified soil scientist before the purchase.

Before Any Design, Permitting or Work Begins

  • If you have purchased a property, go to the county GIS and get a legal address. You'll need this to obtain any permits.
  • Consult with Beagle Hill to get a site visit. We will look over the property with you.Beagle Hill Services charges $450 for the site visit and plan, which will not be billed until the approved septic permit is issued. While we feel we can provide you with the best system design for the best cost, you can work with any registered septic designer. A list can be provided by your county health department (See Listing of All Ohio Health Departments), or from the Ohio Department of Health's Registered Septic Designers.
  • We will arrange for a soil sample to be taken by an independent certified soil scientist. (We feel it is a conflict of interest for us or the Soil Scientist to both sample and design a system, so that is why we use an independent entity.) The natural soil is the most commonly used media for final treatment of sewage effluent from a home. A complete evaluation of the soil on the property is needed to determine how much usable soil (thickness) is present and where it is located. Other site conditions must also be determined such as slope, topography and the location of nearby water sources and drinking water supplies.
  • If we do the design, Beagle Hill will use information from the soil scientist to provide you with the recommended system and cost. We will give you an exact estimate based on the data above, and our price will not change unless requirements and conditions change. We are experts in system design, and can almost always give you a budget for a system that will be approved and can be installed, and then we'll follow through with that plan. Most lots can accommodate more than one system design, and we may present options for more than one system, always looking for the best cost and performance possible. (See Septic System Types) We will help you evaluate all system costs including installation, long-term operation and maintenance requirements and service contract costs. For example, we may recommend system additions like a lift system which may initially be more costly than an aeration system, but may save much money and maintenance over time. You will make the final decision.

We're Good So Far - Time for the Permits

  • Begin securing your financing.
  • Beagle Hill will work with your Local health district staff to arrange for them to visit your site to begin their initial site evaluation process. By this time we've done our homework and know which system can be installed.
  • After the Health Department's initial approval, we will submit the formal final system design to them to receive the permit. This usually takes about a week and averages about $600, but can vary by county.

OK, You are Ready to Build

  • With permits in hand, we can install the system in your timeframe.*
  • We work with your builder to establish house/floor elevations to ensure plumbing exiting the structure is designed and placed correctly. We then arrange a time to start construction of your system. We can many times install a simple system in a single day.

Your Septic System can be put in at any time prior to, during or even after your build.

* Note that we don’t generally do installs between Thanksgiving and Easter due to unfavorable soil conditions.
